In La Carmela, a residence in the center of Barcelona, the aim is to create a contrast between two languages. On one side, the white perimeter of the original dwelling, where two arches are inserted to achieve a fluid dialogue between the main spaces. On the other side, the new world of straight geometries, which resolves the new layout, is imbued with the chromatic tones of the existing hydraulic tile floors and assumes part of the functional package of the residence. The kitchen island plays a fundamental role as a hinge, acting as a junction point between these two geometries and materials, absorbing the pre-existing color palette at the lower levels, which fades as it ascends. The geometries perform an inverse role, with straight lines in the upper parts in dialogue with the kitchen, and curved lines in the lower parts in harmony with the arches. The inserted furniture is approached plastically, with a sculptural intention, enhanced by subtle variations in tones in each volume.
